Octo And Spidey

Carnival season is not my favorite time of the year, I have to say. I might have been into dressing up when I was little, but these days are long over. When you have kids though, you sign up for a whole bunch of things you don't think about beforehand. So I was assigned by the parents' association (no, I wasn't forced, but still – who can say no to that?) to play the octopus in an adapted version of the Carnival Of The Animals. One of the kindergarten kids fathers is a composer and arranged a remix of the original Saint-SaĆ«ns piece together with some Peter And The Wolf and Romeo And Juliet by Prokofiev alongside some other stuff I didn't all recognize.

It was quite a success and the kids were way more focussed than with the magician who had been there earlier, but in hindsight I have to say that my handmade costume looks all kinds of weird, if not wrong. Karl told me to never put it on ever again. Yeah, I won't do that.

Karl was terribly scared during the whole event and wouldn't leave my side even though Superman was there to protect and snack with him. The only person I could leave him with was Sister Veronika whom he loves. Later on he even helped her out at the concession stand and then – of course – didn't want to leave.

Henri wasn't allowed to come, because he was sick again with conjunctivitis and fever.

Believe me, I'm ready for Spring and a period of less colds and pains!

He was almost back to normal yesterday, but allowed to stay home and play with all of Karls cars and work on his new dance moves.

  3. I have to say, Fred, the octopus costume is probably better saved for halloween? Do you dress up scary over there?

  4. It wasn't supposed to be scary... Halloween is not that big here just yet, but I have the feeling more and more people celebrate it every year. How is it in the U.K.?
